Hot Tub Maintenance
OPENING NEW SPA OR FIRST SPRING FILL UP
- Fill spa and add 250 mL/1,000 L of SPA FLUSH. Run pump 15 to 20 minutes at high speed to eliminate anti-freeze residue that may be present in the plumbing.
- Following step one, drain spa.
ALL REGULAR FILL UPS
- Add 15 mL of SPA STAIN PROTECT per 1,000 L of water. Wait until the temperature is ideal for bathing and add 1 pouch of SPA ZAP.
- The following day parameters must be adjusted accordingly, to ensure proper chemical balance. Never use your spa if sanitizer is below 3 ppm:
Sanitizer (ppm) 3 - 5
pH: 7.2 - 7.8
Total alkalinity (ppm): 100 - 150
Calcium hardness (ppm): 100 – 200
INITIAL TREATMENT
- Fill the spa with water that has been analyzed by your Mermaid water specialist.
- If necessary, adjust the alkalinity to between 100 and 150 ppm. If less than 100 ppm raise it up with SPA BALANCE and if higher than 150 ppm reduce it using SPA MINUS. Wait 15 minutes.
- If necessary, adjust the hardness to between 100 and 200 ppm. If less than 100 ppm raise it up with SPA CONTROL and if higher than 200 ppm control it with SPA STAIN PROTECT as recommended by your specialist. Wait 15 minutes.
- For silky soft water, add 150 g of SPA SKINSILK per 1,000 L of water. Wait 15 minutes.
- Balance and maintain pH levels between 7.2 and 7.8 using SPA PLUS or SPA MINUS.
DAILY TREATMENT
- Verify the pH of your spa water and adjust if necessary with SPA MINUS or SPA PLUS.
- Adjust the sanitizer level with SPA 100 or SPA EASY BROME as recommended by your spa specialist.
Pump must be running to ensure proper circulation and sanitation, if spa is equipped with a 2 speed pump, run pump on low speed.
- Verify sanitizer level with test kit before using your spa. Sanitizer level must be between 3 to 5 ppm; if there is heavy usage, sanitizer level must be verified regularly.
WEEKLY TREATMENT
- Add 1 pouch of SPA ZAP per 1,500 L of spa water.
- The next day, add 75 mL of SPA CLEARZYMES per 1,000 L of water. Also add 15 mL of SPA STAIN PROTECT per 1,000 L of water.
- Use 50 g of SPA SKINSILK per 1,000 L of water.
- Rinse out the cartridge once a week and clean monthly with SPA PROLONG replace the cartridge if necessary.
- To ensure lustre to the spa surface, use SPA CLEAN on a weekly basis.
- Using SPA OPTIMUM on a weekly basis will enhance and extend the life of he spa cover.
MONTHLY TREATMENT
- To avoid possible problems and to ensure proper sanitation, once a month take a water sample to your Mermaid water specialist for a full analysis and recommendations.
WATER CHANGE
- Commercial spa water should be changed one or two times a week. For residential spas, the number of days between each water change is equal to the volume of water in litres divided by 10 times the number of daily users.

Number of bathers: 2 x 10 = 20
1,000 L divided by 20 = 50 days = water change
